Wine fact....
Gluhwein (glu - vine)
Translated, this German word means glow wine. We were pouring a premade version of this wonderfully warm mulled (spiced) wine. While you are able to find many recipes on the net for this treat, I promised to publish my personal recipe for Gluhwein which I have made for customers for the last two winters. So here it is.
Ingredients:
1 bottle light, dry, red wine
1 tbsp whole cloves
1 whole orange
1 tsp cinnamon
1tsp cardomon
Dark brown sugar to taste
Directions:
In a small pot, combine wine with cinnamon, cardomon, and brown sugar. Cut orange in half, squeezing the juice of one half into the pot. Using a small knife, cut two slices from the remaining half of an orange and allow to float on top of the wine. Place whole cloves in a tea strainer or cheesecloth and place into pot. Allow to simmer until all flavors combine. Serve in a mug. Makes 4 servings.
